Jason Allison retires
By not re-signing Jason Allison after last year's 60-point season, general manager John Ferguson has helped give the big forward a unique place in the Leafs' record book.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Allison has the highest single-season point total of any Leaf who went directly to retirement, assuming he doesn't make a comeback in the next few years.

Panthers have trade in place for Roberts
Sources tell TSN the Florida Panthers have agreed to a trade involving Gary Roberts and have asked him to waive his no trade clause.
But sources say the deal is not with Toronto or Ottawa, the only two teams Roberts has said he will go to. So at this point, the ball is in Roberts' court, but there is no guarantee he will waive the clause.
Pittsburgh is believed to be the team with the most interest in Roberts.
Roberts is in the final season of a two-year, $4.5 million contract he signed with the Panthers in 2005.

Blues trade Tkachuk to Thrashers
Forward Keith Tkachuk waived his no-trade clause with the St. Louis Blues on Sunday and has been dealt to the Atlanta Thrashers.
In exchange, the Thrashers gave up a first-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft, a second-round pick in 2008 and centre Glen Metropolit.
Both teams were in a holding pattern while Tkachuk and his family decided. "I found out late last night, but with three children I needed some time because it's tough anytime a family is involved," Tkachuk told TSN on Sunday.
"But from a hockey standpoint, there was never any doubt, it's a no brainer." Tkachuk hopes to meet up with his new team in Boston and play on Monday night before returning to St. Louis to help his family adjust.
The Blues exercised a $3.8 million US option on his contract last spring, and the 15-year NHL veteran is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July.
The Thrashers, who started the day in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 72 points, were looking for some added punch to an offence that already features snipers Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa.
"I'll be expected to help out up front by adding size and grit to a lineup that's very deep," said Tkachuk. "They want me to play the middle for now which I've grown accustomed to in St Louis."
Tkachuk, 34, has 20 goals and 43 points this season.
He has 466 goals and over 911 points in 958 plus career regular-season games with Winnipeg, Phoenix and St. Louis. Tkachuk has scored 30-plus goals in eight seasons, and has had 50-plus goals twice.
In 1996-97, he scored 52 goals for Phoenix to become the first American born player to lead the league in goals.
It marks the second time that Tkachuk has been traded on or near the NHL's trade deadline. In March of 2001, the Coyotes traded Tkachuk to St. Louis for Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus, Jeff Taffe and a first round selection (Ben Eager).
"I see this team as having just as good a shot (at the Stanley Cup) as any team," said Tkachuk. "We're one point out of the division lead, so I'm very excited about the opportunity."
Hockey Guy Notes: Finally the thrahsers got a center to play hossa and Kovalchuk, but they give a lots for him and this will make Guerin really hard to get!

Ducks acquire 1st rounder from Lightning
The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman Shane O'Brien and a third round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for minor-league goaltender Gerald Coleman and a first round pick.
The deal gives the Ducks a first round pick that could be used to add an asset before Tuesday's trade deadline. Last summer, the Ducks traded their first round pick to the Edmonton Oilers to acquire defenceman Chris Pronger.
This season, O'Brien has scored two goals and added 12 assists while amassing 140 minutes in penalties. The Port Hope, Ontario native was drafted in the eighth round of the 2003 Enty Draft and re-signed as a restricted free agent last summer.
Coleman was drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 Entry Draft and has yet to appear in an NHL game.

Thrashers send Coburn to Flyers for Zhitnik
The Atlanta Thrashers have made a move to bolster their blueline for a playoff run, acquiring veteran Alexei Zhitnik from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for top defence prospect Braydon Coburn.
Zhitnik, 34, was acquired earlier this season from the New York Islanders, in exchange for Freddy Meyer, and has 23 points and a minus-4 rating in 60 games with the Islanders and Flyers in 2006-2007.
In 1001 career NHL games, Zhitnik has recorded 448 points and 1194 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 215-pounder has a heavy shot from the point and can play a physical game.
Zhitnik also has NHL playoff experience, with 94 career postseason games, though he hasn't participated in the playoffs since 2000-2001 when he was with the Buffalo Sabres.
Coburn, 21, was the 8th overall pick in the 2003 draft and the 6-foot-5, 220-pound blueliner has four points and is plus-1 in 29 games with the Thrashers this season.
Currently in the American Hockey League, Coburn has recorded 11 points and a plus-3 rating in 15 games with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL this season.
In 38 career NHL games, Coburn has five points and is minus-1.

Long Term Blues
The St. Louis Blues announced Saturday that defenceman Eric Brewer and goaltender Manny Legace have agreed to contract extensions with the club. Brewer has agreed to a four-year extension while Legace has agreed to a two-year extension.
"This is a big day for the Blues organization as we move forward," said President John Davidson in a statement. "Both players have had an excellent season and we felt it was important to keep them in the fold as we continue to build."
Brewer, 27, has played in each of the Blues 61 games this season, recording 18 points along with 51 penalty minutes.
He played four seasons with the Edmonton Oilers (2000-01 through 2003-04) before being acquired by the Blues in 2005 in a trade for Chris Pronger. Brewer began his NHL career with the New York Islanders, spending two seasons with the club after being selected in the first round, fifth overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Legace, 34, has played in 45 games with the Blues this season, posting a 23-15-5 record, a .907 save percentage along with a 2.59 goals against average.
"Manny has been putting up the numbers that we expected him to do when we signed him last August," said Davidson. "He has done terrific job for the club this season and has proven to be one of the top goaltenders in the NHL."
Legace spent the previous six seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Last season, he posted a 37-8-0 record and finished third in the NHL with a 2.19 goals against average, fifth with 37 wins and tied for second with seven shutouts. Legace captured the Stanley Cup as a member of the Red Wings in 2002.
Legace was originally Hartford's eighth round selection, 188th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. The Toronto native has appeared in 242 career NHL games, posting a 137-58-18-8 (.620) record along with a 2.28 goals against average and 18 shutouts.

Hurricanes acquire Anson Carter
Anson Carter is on the move again.
The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired the 32-year-old winger from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in 2008.
Carter has 10 goals and 17 assists in 53 games with the Blue Jackets this season. Carter scored a career-high 33 goals with the Vancouver Canucks last season. In 663 career games with the Blue Jackets, Canucks, Kings, Capitals, Rangers, Oilers and Bruins, Carter has totals of 201 goals and 219 assists.
''Anson is a veteran NHL player who has had some good goal-scoring years in his career,'' Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement. ''He will help strengthen our forward corps at a much needed time.'' Carter signed a 1-year deal for $2.5 million with the Blue Jackets last summer and is slated to become a free agent again after this season.
This is the seventh time Carter has been traded, second only behind Mike Sillinger (traded 10 times) among active NHL players. He has also changed his address twice on his own accord, signing as a free agent with Vancouver and Columbus in the last two off-seasons

Oilers trade Bergeron to the Islanders
The Edmonton Oilers have made a move, but it's not one that will help with the playoff push this season.
The Oilers swapped defencemen with the New York Islanders on Sunday, sending Marc-Andre Bergeron to Long Island for Denis Grebeshkov.
Grebeshkov was a first-round draft pick in 2002 and has played 33 NHL games, but is spending this season with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the Russian league.
The 23-year-old is expected to remain in Russia this season. He'll be a restricted free agent this summer.
"We see the upside in the player we're acquiring,'' Oilers GM Kevin Lowe said. "We see this as a long-term upgrade.''
Bergeron had spent his entire NHL career in Edmonton. He had 33 goals and 88 points in 189 games.
The Oilers and Islanders are each currently outside of the playoff picture in their respective conferences.

Flyers deal Forsberg to Predators
The Nashville Predators have added a big weapon for the stretch run.
The Predators traded winger Scottie Upshall, defenceman Ryan Parent, a first round pick and a third round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for Peter Forsberg.
''Forsberg has been on our radar, in terms of who might be available for months, not weeks,'' said Predators head coach Barry Trotz. ''It was always based on speculation, but as a group we said, let's not lose this guy.
''This trade could be our defining moment and we didn't want to look back 20 years from now and wonder whether or not the Peter Forsberg trade might have made a difference on helping the Nashville Predators win the Stanley Cup.''
The 33-year-old centre adds some much needed playoff experience to the Predators. In fact Forsberg has more career playoff points (162) than the rest of the Predators lineup (155). ''There is a time and a place to step up and make a big move,'' said Predators general manager David Poile. ''We felt it was the time and it was the place. We're thrilled to get (Peter Forsberg). We gave up a lot to get him, but we feel it's worth it. This franchise has been built on draft picks so it's not easy to give them or our good prospects up, but it was time to take a chance and do it a little differently.''
Forsberg, who will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, was on the ice for warm-ups Thursday for Philadelphia's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he was scratched from the lineup.
In 40 games with the Flyers this season Forsberg has 11 goals and 29 assists. He is also leads the Flyers with a +2 plus/minus rating.
''Peter could not commit to signing an extension because of his uncertainty. Therefore, we had to do what was best for the future of the team,'' said Flyers chairman Ed Snider.
Forsberg has missed 16 games with a variety of injuries this season including a concussion, an injured groin and a sore back.
Upshall has played in 14 games with the Predators this season and has two goals, one assist and 18 penalty minutes.
Parent, who is playing with the Guelph Storm this year, has missed 23 of the team's 55 games and is currently out with a bulging disk in his back.

Doan agrees to five-year deal with Coyotes
Another potential unrestricted free agent is about to be lifted off the market.
Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan has agreed to a five-year deal for a total of almost $23 million to remain with the organization.
Doan's agent JP Barry met with Phoenix management in Florida earlier this week and the negotiation continued through last night en-route to striking the deal.
The contract hasn't been signed and there are some "house keeping" issues to be resolved, but the key components, the term, the dollars and a highly coveted no-movement clause have been agreed to.
Doan, originally drafted 7th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1995 Entry Draft remains the only active player on the Coyotes roster who transferred to Phoenix when the franchise relocated in 1996.
Following the trade of Ladislav Nagy, Doan now leads the team in scoring with 19 goals and 35 points and has 11 points in his last 14 games.
He ranks third in all-time games played with the team, fifth in career goals and sixth in career points. He has also been the captain of the team since 2003-04.
The Coyotes are expected to officially announce the resigning of their captain on Thursday.
While the Coyotes wrap up their most expensive signing, general manager Mike Barnett's work in securing the future of a number of Doan's teammates is ongoing.
For instance, 26-year old centre Mike Zigomanis has agreed to a two-year extension at $650,000 per year.
Zigomanis has 10 goals and six assists in 51 games this season.
Meanwhile, expect contract discussions between the Coyotes and veteran centre Yanic Perreault to heat up now that Doan has been looked after.
Perreault, a late add by Phoenix this season, initially agreed to a one-year, $700,000 deal and is believed to now be seeking a two-year extension in the neighborhood of $1.3 million per season.
Perreault has 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points in 44 games with Phoenix this season. He also leads the entire NHL in face-off percentage with a 62 percent success rate.
Phoenix will also try and nail down goaltender Mikael Tellqvist in what is expected to be a two-year agreement as well.

Stars acquire forward Nagy from Coyotes
The Dallas Stars hope Ladislav Nagy can help put them over the top.
Dallas acquired the speedy winger on Monday from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a first-round draft pick and forward Mathias Tjarnqvist.
"Ladislav brings speed and skill to our hockey club and has proven to be a top-six NHL forward over his career," said Stars GM Doug Armstrong. "We look for him to come in and make an immediate impact on our roster.''
Nagy is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He became expendable after Coyotes GM Mike Barnett was unable to sign him to a long-term deal. He's earning US$3 million this season. The push is on for the Stars, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference but trail Anaheim by just four points for first place in the Pacific Division.
Nagy had 41 points (eight goals, 33 assists) in 55 games for the Coyotes this season. He spent six seasons with the Coyotes, racking up 249 points in 321 games.
Tjarnqvist is more of a role player. He had four points in 18 games for Dallas this year and has 12 points in 69 career NHL games. The 27-year-old is earning the league's minimum salary of $450,000.
Phoenix now has two first-round selections at the upcoming entry draft in Columbus.

Thrashers acquire Belanger and Hamel
The Nashville Predators picked up the veteran defenceman they were seeking Saturday when they sent centre Eric Belanger to the Atlanta Thrashers for defenceman Vitaly Vishnevski.
The trade was the second in two days for Belanger, who was acquired by Nashville from the Carolina Hurricanes for centre Josef Vasicek.
The Thrashers also claimed forward Denis Hamel on waivers from Ottawa.
Vishnevski, 26, has three goals and nine assists in 52 games for Atlanta this season while earning US$1.55 million.
Although he'll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer, Vishnevski brings a much needed boost of experience to a Nashville blue-line corps stocked with talented youngsters like Shea Weber, Ryan Suter and Dan Hamhuis.
"With Vishnevski, we are adding a big, strong, physical defenceman with over 400 NHL games of experience and two deep runs into the post-season," said Predators general manager David Poile. "We have been carrying 15 forwards on the roster for most of the season. This gives us some veteran depth on the blue-line and gives our roster more balance."
Belanger, 29, who is earning US$1.3 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
He had eight goals and 12 assists in 56 games with Carolina while winning 53.6 per cent (362-for-676) of his face-offs.
It's the third trade of the season for Belanger, who was acquired by the Hurricanes along with Tim Gleason from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Oleg Tverdovsky and Jack Johnson on Sept. 29, 2006.
Hamel, 29, has registered four goals, three assists in 43 games with the Senators this season.

Wild send Dupuis to Rangers for Hall
The Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers have swapped wingers.
The Wild send Pascal Dupuis to the Rangers in exchange for Adam Hall.
Dupuis, 27, has played 334 career games with the Wild, recording 141 points. This season, the 6-foot, 196-pounder has 10 goals, 13 points and is minus-7 in 48 games.
Hall, 26, has collected 12 points and is minus-13 in 49 games with the Rangers this season. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward was acquired from Nashville last summer, in exchange for Dominic Moore. Hall has 97 points in 293 career games.
Hall is earning $975,000 this year and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Dupuis is making $798,000 and will be an unrestricted free agent.
"This is something that we've wanted for some time," said Wild assistant GM Tom Lynn in a statement. "Because the element of grit is not widely available in the trade market, we feel we are getting a player that brings more of that physical element while New York is getting more of a penalty killer. Having that toughness is definitely needed in a playoff push."

The Hurricanes have acquired centre Josef Vasicek from the Nashville Predators in exchange for centre Eric Belanger.
Vasicek, 26, netted 13 points in 38 games with the Predators this season and has been a healthy scratch recently. After being acquired from the Hurricanes by Nashville for forward Scott Walker on July 18, 2006, he returns to Carolina, where he played 316 NHL games from 2001-2006.
The 6-foot-5, 214-pound centre had a career-high 45 points with the Hurricanes in 2003-2004, but missed a large portion of the 2005-2006 season with a knee injury before getting traded in the offseason.
"We're obviously very familiar with Joe and the type of game he is capable of bringing to the Hurricanes," Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford said in a statement. "Going back to his natural position of centre, with his size and strength, will help our team down the stretch."
Belanger, 29, has posted 20 points in 56 games this season for Carolina. The 6-foot, 195-pound Sherbrooke, Que. native ranks second on the Hurricanes in face-off winning percentage (53.4%). Samsonov clears waivers; hopes to stay
Winger Sergei Samsonov cleared NHL waivers Wednesday and also cleared the air.
The Russian winger, a major disappointment this season, says he's looking forward to staying on with the Montreal Canadiens after meeting with head coach Guy Carbonneau and GM Bob Gainey.
On Tuesday, the Canadiens placed Samsonov on waivers after the US$3.525-million winger said they should trade him if they're not going to play him. He was scratched a second consecutive time for Tuesday night's 2-1 loss to Carolina.
Samsonov, who will also earn $3.525 million next season, has only seven goals and 15 assists in 52 games this season

Samsonov placed on waivers
The Montreal Canadiens placed Sergei Samsonov on waivers Tuesday after the unhappy winger said they should trade him if they're not going to play him.Samsonov, signed to a two-year US$7.05 million contract as a free agent last summer, was listed as a healthy scratch for a second game in a row for Montreal's meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night."Being scratched two games in a row, you're getting a clear answer that you're a problem, so maybe it's the best solution for both parties," Samsonov said after a team skate Tuesday morning."At this point, I guess you have to ask yourself that."Samsonov has until noon Eastern time Wednesday to clear waivers at which time the Habs could send him to AHL Hamilton or keep him on the roster.Samsonov's Boston-based agent Neil Abbott told Le Journal de Montreal this week he would request a trade after Samsonov was scratched for a 4-3 victory Sunday over the Pittsburgh Penguins.Abbott said Samsonov had played well of late and was being blamed unfairly for the team's inconsistent performance in the past month.Samsonov, a 20-goal scorer through most of his nine-year NHL career, was the club's main off-season signing as a free agent last summer. He has only seven goals and 15 assists in 52 games. He was also scratched for a Jan. 16 game.Coach Guy Carbonneau said that if Samsonov asks for a trade it may affect how much he is used in future."Obviously, I want players who want to play here," said Carbonneau. "I didn't know about the trading thing before the game (Sunday)."I look at what players do on the ice. At the time, I felt the players on the ice would help us win more."The coach said he does not see Samsonov's situation as a distraction for the team, but admitted that, "it's not easy for anyone.""It's not easy for Sergei or the team and it's not easy for me, either," he added. "You think I like it?"I'd rather have Sergei in my lineup with 15 goals and playing well. Those are the decisions I'm paid to make. I had to feel that I put 20 guys on the ice that can win." . Samsonov, drafted eighth overall in 1997 by Boston, had seasons of 29 goals in 2000-01 and 2001-02. He was traded to Edmonton last March 9 for the playoff drive. The Moscow native has struggled in Montreal. He had only one goal in his last 22 games, although he had two assists in a loss in Pittsburgh last week and his plus-minus is even on a team with many top scoring forwards in minus figures.

Kings deal Avery to Rangers
The Los Angeles Kings have traded centre Sean Avery and prospect John Seymour to the New York Rangers for right winger Jason Ward along with prospects Marc-Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.
Avery, 26, has established a reputation as a contentious player with controversial statements and a league penalty minute crown part of his package.
''Sometimes players just take a little time to mature,'' said Kings general manager Dean Lombardi. ''Sean's still young, hopefully he'll continue to do so. He's going to a big stage now. If he continues (to mature), he'll do just fine. From the summer, when I first got there, there wasn't much of a market for Sean Avery. He's made progress.''
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound pivot has toned down his act this season and is on pace for his most productive season. Through 55 games, Avery has 10 goals, 28 points, 116 penalty minutes and is minus-10.
Last season, Avery scored 39 points and led the NHL with 257 penalty minutes. He has 114 points and 855 penalty minutes in 293 career NHL games.

Cliche, who played for Canada's gold medal-winning entry at the World Junior Hockey Tournament was a second-round pick of the Rangers in 2005. Playing for Lewiston of the QMJHL, he has 36 points in 35 games this season.
''Some teams were actively pursuing Sean, the New York Rangers were very aggressive,'' Lombardi said. ''From our standpoint, the key is the young player, Cliche, who has impressed us.''
Marek is a 27 year-old forward who is the leading scorer, with 43 points in 42 games, for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Russian Super League.
Seymour was drafted in the 7th-round by Los Angeles in 2005 and has six points and 29 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Brampton Battalion of the OHL.

-Kings still have several soon-to-be free agents that could be moved: C Derek Armstrong, D Aaron Miller, D Brent Sopel and G Mathieu Garon. The paper also notes that the Kings have offered C Sean Avery, looking for a first-round pick in return.
Hockey Guy Notes: The kings will not a get a 1st rounder for Avery and the kings will be a fun team to watch leading up to the deadline!
-Canucks are looking for a replacement for injured C Ryan Kesler, and will look at veterans Mike Sillinger of the New York Islanders or Bryan Smolinski of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Hockey Guy Notes: Mike Sillinger would look good in nucks jeresy!
the Bruins would deal Stuart and Sturm to Edmonton for defencemen Jason Smith and Marc-Andre Bergeron.
Hockey Guy Notes: Will not happen, Jason Smith is the leader of Edmonton.
Carolina Hurricanes are set to deal one of their surplus defenceman, David Tanabe or Andrew Hutchinson, to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Hockey Guy Notes: Watch for Edmonton to make a play for one their many d-man!
Hockey Guy Notes: Rangers sign Matt Cullen to be there 2nd line center and has been a busted, Keith Tkachuk would look good in NYR.

2 minor deals
1st one: The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired wingers Kyle Wanvig and Stephen Baby from the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday in exchange for defenceman Andy Delmore and winger Andre Deveaux.
Wanvig, 26, has five goals and nine assists in 64 career NHL games. This season in the AHL he had 10 goals and 11 assists with the Chicago Wolves.
Baby, 27, had one goal and two assists in eight games with the Wolves this season.
The 30-year-old Delmore had 24 points (12-12) in 47 games with the AHL's Springfield Falcons this season. The former North Bay Centennials junior has 101 points (43-58) in 283 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Nashville, Buffalo and Columbus.
Deveaux, a former Montreal Canadiens sixth-round draft pick in 2002, had one goal and two assists in eight games with the Falcons this season as well as six goals and eight assists in 21 games with the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs.
Hockey Guy Notes: Great depth by both teams and none of these players will see time this year!
2nd deal: The Boston Bruins have traded defenceman Milan Jurcina to the Washington Capitals for a fourth round pick.
In 40 games with the Bruins this season, Jurcina has two goals and one assist and a -5 rating. In 91 career NHL games Jurcina has eight goals and six assists.
''This acquisition is consistent with what we are trying to accomplish,'' Capitals GM George McPhee said in a statement. ''Milan Jurcina is a young guy with some growth potential. We expect that he will help our penalty kill right away and we look forward to seeing how else he can help us in the long term.''
Jurcina, who is earning $500,000 this season, will become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Hockey Guy Notes: You can tell this was rookie GM deal, boston should have gotton more!

Nathan Horton wants out of Florida
Panthers winger Nathan Horton is apparently unhappy with the team and wants out of Florida, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Horton, 21, is set to become a restricted free agent this summer and the Post claims the Panthers could face problems re-signing him.
Horton's Boston-based agent, Paul Krapelka, said Horton's dissatisfaction stems mostly from the team's inability to build a winner.
"He's frustrated at not winning, like everybody else down there," Krapelka told the paper. "The unhappiness is a matter of frustration with the team.
"He may wear it on his sleeve more than other guys. But at no time have we ever asked he be traded."
Horton and Bobby Orr, who heads the agency Krapelka works for, met with Panthers coach and GM Jacques Martin two weeks ago to discuss Horton's situation.
According to the Post, Krapelka is believed to be attempting to orchestrate an offer sheet from another team that the Panthers could be unwilling to match. Martin had not heard of such a report.
Horton has recorded 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points in 52 games so far this season with the Panthers. from: www.TheFourthPeriod.com
Hockey Guy Notes: He should be, the have been shitty team scince Horton arrived on in miami and watch for Edmonon, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal,Calgray, NY Ranger & Islanders make a play for him and he is cheap towards the cap @ $1.07 mill

Craig Conroy is heading back to Calgary.
The Flames acquired Conroy from the Los Angeles Kings on Monday in exchange for Jamie Lundmark, a fourth-round draft choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round draft choice in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Conroy returns to Calgary where he played in four seasons between 2001 and 2004. He was a member of the Flames' Western Conference championship team during the 2003-04 season and captained the club during the 2002-03 campaign. In 237 regular season games with the Flames he recorded 188 points with 60 goals and 128 assists. During the 03-04 playoffs he added another 17 points including 6 goals in 26 games.
A veteran of 12 NHL seasons, Conroy has twice been a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy while accumulating 411 points in 706 career games with Montreal, St. Louis, Calgary and Los Angeles. Conroy signed as a free agent with Los Angeles on July 6, 2004. In 52 games this season he has recorded 5 goals and 11 assists for 16 points.
Originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens as their sixth round selection (123rd overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Conroy was traded to St. Louis in 1996. Calgary first acquired the former U.S. Olympian with a seventh round pick from St. Louis on March 13, 2001 in exchange for Cory Stillman.
Lundmark has played in 39 games with the Flames this season and has four assists and 31 penalty minutes. The Edmonton native has played in 203 career regular season NHL games with the Flames, Phoenix Coyotes and New York Rangers and has 62 points (20g, 42a) and 142 penalty minutes. He has also played in four playoff games, recording one assist and seven penalty minutes.
Hockey Guy Notes: This trade will start the next wacky month of trades and rumors because today is 1 month to the Febuary 27th trade deadline. This a good move for the flames and Lundmark has been a big bust!!

Forsberg ready to leave Philly
Peter Forsberg has agreed to lift his no-trade clause with the Philadelphia Flyers for the purpose of going to a playoff contender.Multiple teams have contacted the Flyers about the possibility of obtaining the two-time Stanley Cup champion, including the Maple Leafs, Canadiens and the Rangers.Under normal circumstances, a player of Forsberg's status could easily land the Flyers a first-round pick and a top prospect, but his health status continues to be an issue for some teams. Sources tell Sportsnet a deal could revolve around a conditional future considerations trade built around Forsberg's performance and if or when he re-signs with the Flyers again in the off season

Hockey Guy Notes: Watch for Vancouver, Red Wings, Avs, Montreal all make a strong push for him. I think the best bet is Vancouver where his best friend Markus Naslund plays. Vancouver will have to trade 1st rounder, roster player and young player! I know this would happen I know Foppa would not stay on loseing team. Now it is the waiting game.

Here is a All Star Idea
the NHL should play their best against the AHL best.
Since the NHL had a lame ass All star game this year. This would give the AHL best players and up-comeing players time to shine.
It s about time for a change or get rid of the fan voteing!

Rumors from TSN Backchecking
- Rangers are keeping tabs on Flyers C Peter Forsberg for a possible trade, and notes Montreal and Atlanta as possible Eastern Conference rivals that would bid for him as well. The paper also mentions the Ottawa Senators, but that seems unlikely given the Sens depth down the middle. While noting the Wings' interest in Forsberg, the Detroit News says that the Rangers are willing to offer RW Petr Prucha for Forsberg, and that the Rangers have also explored deals for Kings C Craig Conroy and Canucks C Brendan Morrison. The Rangers, Canadiens and Red Wings are the leading candidates to land Forsberg. Vancouver and Colorado are among the dozen or so teams to inquire about the Flyers centre.
- If it's to be believed that the Rangers would offer Prucha (and possibly a pick) for Forsberg, what could the Red Wings or Canadiens offer to compete? Detroit could part with some combination of Jiri Hudler, Johan Franzen or Jason Williams, though Philadelphia would surely get more interested if Niklas Kronwall was available. Montreal would readily offer Sergei Samsonov, but Philly's likely to be more interested in young, inexpensive prospects like Andrei Kostitsyn, Mikhail Grabovski or Kyle Chipchura.
-the Flyers have the following unrestricted free agents who could be available for a deal: Kyle Calder, Mike York, Robert Esche, Todd Fedoruk and Dmitry Afanasenkov. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told the paper that he will not consider dealing Sami Kapanen.
-Blues D Eric Brewer will be attractive trade bait approaching the trade deadline, possibly even for the Oilers.
-Bruins D Brad Stuart could get moved before the deadline. Both are free agents at season's end.
-Senators D Joe Corvo could go for LW Raffi Torres or RW Joffrey Lupul, though the Oilers are reluctant to take on the remaining three years on Corvo's contract.
-The Hurricanes are going to move a defenceman or two in the coming weeks, once they are all healthy, while adding forward depth.
- The Bruins are dealing, their needs include an energy forward and depth on the blueline.
- That Blues free agents to be Eric Brewer, Keith Tkachuk, Bill Guerin, Jamal Mayers, Radek Dvorak, Jamie Rivers and Manny Legace could all be of interest to contending teams.
-Oilers could pursue added toughness through trade, if they feel they need an upgrade on minor league tough-guy Zack Stortini.
-Should the Coyotes fall further out of the playoff picture, wingers Ladislav Nagy and Shane Doan should be available
-The mediocre play from D Dmitri Kalinin has the Sabres considering a move to improve their defence corps.
-The Canucks could be interested in snagging former Canucks and current Blue Jackets RW Anson Carter before the deadline. However The Jackets have entered into negotiations for a contract extension with Carter.
-While discussing the Blackhawks' desire to move veteran defencemen Adrian Aucoin and Jassen Cullimore, whether the Blackhawks might be inclined to move G Nikolai Khabibulin to a contender needing a boost between the pipes. Of course, that contender would need to have major cap room to handle Khabibulin's contract. More likely is that the Blackhawks will try to deal either Patrick Lalime or Brian Boucher.
-Panthers RW Todd Bertuzzi is itching to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs when he hits free agency this summer.

Flames looking @ Martin Gelinas?
It may not be a blockbuster move, but getting a quality locker-room presence before the trade deadline may be just what Calgary needs to get over the hump.
ex-Flames Martin Gelinas would fit the bill perfectly. The 36-year-old is playing out the string in Florida and would be an easy pickup for Calgary. Gelinas can walk at the end of the seasonfrom Florida as an unrestricted free agent and doesn't fit into the loing term plans of the team.
While Calgary fans may be dreaming of seeing Gary Roberts or Peter Forsberg in a Flames uniform, neither fit into the Flames' salary structure. Gelinas only makes $975,000, putting the Flames on the hook for roughly $225,000 if he's acquired Feb. 27.
from:http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/hockey_hearsay/2007/01/26/flames_looking_to_gel/
Hockey Guy Notes: The flames are sit they just need one more guy for the dressing to bring a veteran presence and Martin Gelinas would fit that bill.

Leafs Place Alexander Suglobov on waivers
rds.com is reporting it.
Hockey Guy Notes: This means Boyd Devereaux is staying in TO and no one will claim Suglobov. Suglobov has turn out to be floater in the legaue in 18 career games in the NHL he has 1 goal and is -9 and was suppose to be a offensive star in this leaguae. He is wash and well never been in the NHL again.

Rumors from TSN backchecking
-The Rangers are discussing a deal to get LW Ryan Malone and D Brooks Orpik from Pittsburgh in exchange for RW Petr Prucha RW Adam Hall. Pittsburgh's already thin on the blueline to begin with, so dealing away Orpik would be a questionable decision. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review acknowledged that the Penguins did warn Malone of impending trade talks.
Hocket Guy Notes: Why in the world would the pens deal in their own divsion and when there are really then on the blueline.
- Flyers G Robert Esche is attracting some attention on the trade market. With Michael Leighton available to back-up Antero Niittymaki, the Flyers could be inclined to make a deal that will help them for the future.
Hockey Guy Notes: Esche is wash up and is a cancer in the dressing room.
-either Brian Boucher or Patrick Lalime could get dealt before the deadline.
Hockey Guy Notes: Toronto, Vancouver are in a of a goaile soo watch for them to make a play for both of them.
Canucks LW Jan Bulis could be on the move, as his agent told the Vancouver Province that Bulis is frustrated with his role in Vancouver and could ask for a deal. As Bulis notes, he's one a one-year deal, so he needs an opportunity to produce in order to secure his next contract.
Hockey Guy Notes: Bulis is a good two-way left winger at best suit for the 4th line and not a great scorer!
-the Blue Jackets have started contract talks with LW Fredrik Modin and RW Anson Carter, who will both be free agents at season's end. If new deals aren't reached before the deadline, they will be easy to move to teams needing veteran forward help.
Hockey Guy Notes: Two good offesnive players but playing like shit this year.
- Predators owner Craig Leipold says that if the team is going to make a deal before the deadline, it will likely be for a stay-at-home defenceman.
Hockey Guy Notes: Yes thats what they lack, Dan Hamhuis is still learning the ropes as a stay-at-home d-man.
The Wild have informed other NHL teams that RW Pascal Dupuis is available in trade.
Hockey Guy Notes: Great two player, Can he be headed to the habs?
- TSN's Bob McKenzie mentioned that the Canadiens have talked to the Blackhawks about a deal that would send D Craig Rivet and LW Sergei Samsonov to the Blackhawks for D Adrian Aucoin.
Hockey Guy Notes: All this players in this deal are overpaid and play like shit too.
Edmonton have the Oilers interested in Kings D Lubomir Visnovsky, but Kings GM Dean Lombardi sounds awfully reluctant to deal his blueline star.
Hockey Guy Notes: The kings season is all done, they are just playing for the first overall pick, Just watch Lubomir Visnovsky will ask for a trade because he will want to win and kevin lowe will end up with him.
-Wings make a bid for Flyers C Peter Forsberg who, if healthy, could be re-signed to a multi-year deal in the off-season. while noting rumors out of Montreal that included the Canadiens seeking Forsberg, insists that he is more likely to finish the season in Philadelphia while searching for a solution to his ongoing foot problems.
Hockey Guy Notes: Forsberg career is over folks and no one will trade for injury prone player!
-the Thrashers will make a push to sign Senators C Mike Comrie as a free agent this summer.
Hockey Guy Notes: Comire will stay put in ottawa, he has find a home as the 2nd line center in ottawa.

Kings set to retire Robitaille's No. 20
Luc Robitaille predicts the tears might be flowing come Saturday night when his No. 20 goes up to the rafters at the Staples Center.
But on the eve of his jersey retirement with the Los Angeles Kings, the former all-star winger was all laughs as he fondly reminisced about his 19 years in the NHL, 14 of them in L.A.
He vividly recalled his reaction after the Kings drafted him in 1984.
"I remember looking at a map and seeing how far L.A. was from where I was born," the Montreal native said Friday.
Barely a word of English in his arsenal, it didn't take long for Robitaille to know he was far away from home after joining the Kings in his rookie season in 1986-87 following three stellar years with the Quebec League's Hull Olympiques.
"I knew right away it wasn't Montreal. Like they say, we're not in Kansas anymore," the 40-year-old said with a hearty laugh.
A then-20-year-old Robitaille didn't let the Hollywood backdrop affect his play, scoring 45 goals and 84 points in 79 games - earning him the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year. But he couldn't help but notice his surreal surroundings.
"I remember one of the first celebrities I met, Chad Lowe came to see us after a game with his brother Rob," said Robitaille. "And Melissa Gilbert was with them. I was a big fan of Little House on the Prairie. She came in the dressing room with those guys, and she saw every guy walking around naked in the dressing room and I'll never forget, she stepped backward about five feet so fast.
"We were like, 'Hey, that's the girl from Little House on the Prairie.'"
Robitaille also had to put up with the antics in his own dressing room, veterans such as Larry Playfair, Bob Bourne and Mark Hardy playing practical jokes on him in the early years.
"Every day those guys would seem to find something to do to one of us young guys," said Robitaille. "I remember looking for my shoes once and they were stuck on the ceiling with cement glue. We couldn't pull them off the ceiling."
Then there's the old sewing of the sleeves on the jersey.
"You go to put on your jersey and you'd almost break your wrist," Robitaille said. "They'd cut your socks or nail your shoes to the ground. It was so funny, you don't really see that anymore. But in those days those guys would spend hours figuring out new tricks."
The biggest trick of all for Robitaille was making the NHL, let alone starring in it. He was a ninth-round pick of the Kings, all the way down to 171st overall. Today the draft is only seven rounds long.
"He was a great junior but the setback was that he couldn't skate, or at least not enough to play in the NHL," former Kings GM Rogie Vachon said Friday. "That's why everyone kept passing on him that day at the draft.
"Finally I said, `When are we going to take this guy?' I had seem him play in junior. At some point I said, `OK, that's it, we're taking him now.' And I think it was a pretty good move."
The knock that Robitaille couldn't skate was answered in style: highest scoring left-winger in NHL history with 668 goals.
"Every day I was trying to prove people wrong," said Robitaille, now an executive with the Kings' parent company, Anschutz Entertainment Group.
The all-time franchise leader in goals scored (557), Robitaille will join Vachon, Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor and Wayne Gretzky as the only Kings players to have their jersey retired.
"He's wonderful kid," Vachon said of him. "He has a very nice family, he was a great teammate and always very good with the young guys. Just a very, very classy guy."
Vachon and Gretzky, whose Phoenix Coyotes provide the opposition Saturday night, will take part in the ceremony as well as Kings alumni Bob Berry, Jimmy Carson, Mike Donnelly, Steve Duchesne, Daryl Evans, Stephane Fiset, Jim Fox, Garry Galley, Butch Goring, Bob Kudelski, Jari Kurri, Marty McSorley, Barry Melrose, Jay Miller, Bernie Nicholls, Larry Robinson, Jay Wells and the jokester Playfair.
"I think it's going to be a pretty emotional night," said Robitaille, who retired after last season. "I've put a lot into the game for the last 35 years of my life. It's really the ending of it. I'm looking forward to it because it's been such a great ride."
His next honour might be the Hall of Fame in a few years. He had 1,394 career points (668-726) in 1,431 regular-season games with Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh and the New York Rangers. Robitaille also ranks second all-time in Kings history in games played (1,077), second in points (1,154) and fourth in assists (597).
He never won a Cup as a King but came close in 1993 when Los Angeles lost to Montreal.
"The Cup final in L.A. was definitely the highlight of playing here," said Robitaille.
"Winning the Cup in Detroit (in 2002) toward the end of my career and really appreciating what it meant was really special too," he added.
And playing with Robinson and Gretzky, two players he idolized, was also huge.
"I think for the first year or two I barely said a word to them because I was so intimidated," said Robitaille. "Now I look back, I feel so fortunate to have met and played with my idols."

Niedermayer, Zetterberg out of All-Star Game
The NHL All-Star Game will be short a couple of stars next week as defenceman Scott Niedermayer of Anaheim and forward Henrik Zetterberg of Detroit will not be going.
Niedermayer was voted on to the Western Conference team by fans but will miss the game due to a stress fracture in his right foot. The Ducks noted in a press release that the injury was discovered after a January 13 game against Colorado. He is not expected to miss any regular season games.
Niedermayer's spot on defence will be filled by Ed Jovanovski of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Zetterberg will be replaced by Anaheim forward Andy McDonald.
Jovanovski, 30, will be making his fourth career All-Star Game appearance. Playing in his 11th NHL first season and first in Phoenix, Jovanovski leads Coyotes defensemen in scoring with 27 points in 42 games.
McDonald, 29, will be making his All-Star Game debut. Signed as a free agent by the Ducks in April, 2000 following a standout four-year career at Colgate University, McDonald ranks second on the Ducks in scoring with 45 points in 49 games.

Oilers Looking for a new home?
Patrick LaForge is looking for an upgrade.
The president of the Edmonton Oilers says the Western Conference champions are eager participants in talks and studies now going on in the Alberta capital to either retrofit the aging Rexall Place, or to be part of a new downtown arena mega-palace.
"It (the rink) is getting tired," LaForge said in an interview with The Canadian Press.
LaForge added the team has just over seven years left in its lease with Edmonton Northlands - the non-profit group that operates the building in the city's industrial northeast.
"It is our hope between now and when it expires we'll find a new residence," said LaForge.
Built in 1974, Rexall Place is the oldest Canadian home in the NHL and third-oldest in the league, behind Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh and the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, home to the New York Islanders. In Pittsburgh, failure to reach a deal on a new rink has left the future of the franchise in doubt in the Pennsylvania city.
Rexall has been retrofitted once already, to upgrade facilities and add luxury suites. Still, on game nights, the 16,839 seats are routinely sold out.
Between periods, patrons lining up for the washroom snake out the door, becoming a human dam for a streaming river of fans shuffling, elbowing and bumping along to grab food and souvenirs.
"The crush space in the food and beverage area is literally crush," said LaForge, who added that the comparatively small seating capacity puts pressure on teams like the Oilers in what is a gate-driven league.
"It causes us to have to increase ticket prices because we don't have that bottom-end price at the top end of the bowl like a lot of other buildings do."
The Oilers have 67 luxury suites, and LaForge believes they could sell 40 more. The locker room is tiny, media facilities need upgrading and TV trucks are forced to wedge in under the seats with no room to spare.
"It's brutal," said LaForge. The average ice arena now is 750,000 square feet. Ours is 409,000." Edmonton Northlands has commissioned a report from a U.S. architect on whether Rexall can realistically be upgraded to the size of modern NHL rinks. It's expected to be ready next month.
The downtown arena proposal hasn't gone beyond informal discussions among business leaders. The rough price tag is $300 million.
Mayor Stephen Mandel has said he would look seriously at building a new downtown rink that would be part of a $1-billion complex of shops, businesses and a hotel. Who would pay for what is part of the discussion.
Sports studies professor Dan Mason said building a rink downtown is part of the new economic model for sports facilities and cities.
More activity in the businesses around a downtown rink can translate into more retail, commercial and real estate tax money to help service the arena debt, he said.
"You can look at it as the arena can pay for itself," said Mason, who studies sports and stadium financing at the University of Alberta.
He said local politicians have a strong hand in a petroleum-rich province with newcomers streaming in daily.
"The city has the opportunity to take its time and work with different parties to make the best decision," said Mason.
Edmonton fans have long and bitter memories over hockey and money. In the early 1990s, then-owner Peter Pocklington threatened to take the team to Hamilton in a lease dispute. Eight years ago, the team was all but sold to Houston until saved by a local ownership group.
LaForge said those new owners aren't on that path.
"They aren't going to be showing anyone pictures of Portland or Houston," said LaForge.
Forbes magazine says the value of the Oilers franchise has soared 40 per cent in the last two years with an operating income of US$10.7 million, fourth-highest in the league.

Kings pick up veteran goaltender Burke
The storied career of veteran NHL goaltender, Sean Burke is about to add a new chapter.
Sources tell TSN the soon-to-be 40 year-old has been claimed on re-entry waivers by the Los Angeles Kings who, because of injury, are desperate for some stability in their crease.
Burke, recalled from the AHL's Springfield Falcons still has aproximately $700,000 owing on his $1.6-million contract. However, by claiming him on re-entry Los Angeles will split the remaining portion of his salary.
"He's an NHL goaltender," Kings GM Dean Lombardi told The Canadian Press. "He's a character guy. But we're not sure what to expect. In fairness to him, he hasn't played a lot this year."
Tampa Bay is also relieved of $350,000 in cap space, considered a significant amount as the Lightning position for the possibility of improvement leading up to next month's NHL trade deadline.
Burke has played 797 games in his NHL career spent with New Jersey, Hartford, Carolina, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Florida, Phoenix and Tampa Bay. He has a 2.95 goals against average and .902 save percentage.
With Springfield of the AHL this season, Burke has played in seven games, posting a 4.52 goals against average and .856 save percentage.
Injuries to Dan Cloutier and Mathieu Garon left the Kings with inexperienced goaltenders Barry Brust and Yutaka Fukufuji available and they've struggled. Brust has a 3.59 goals against average and .881 save percentage in ten games with the Kings this season, while the recently recalled Fukufuji has a 5.83 goals against average and .714 save percentage in two appearances.
"Let's face it, in fairness to the kids that are playing for us right now, they're just not NHL goalies," said Lombardi. "It's not fair to Brust or Fukufuji, they're not ready for this. It's not their fault."

Hockey Guy Notes: as i said yesterday the kings would pick him up and he is way better then the beach ball in cloutier and garon. He will not be the answear for the sad sack kings.

Stastny, 24, had two assists in 21 games with Boston this season and 12 points (3-9) in 11 games with AHL Providence.
The Quebec City native is the son of former Nordiques great Peter Stastny. He was originally Boston's eighth-round selection, 259th overall, in the 2002 NHL entry draft.

Hockey Guy Notes: The blue adding another a forward should lead to speculation about potential deals involving veterans Bill Guerin, Martin Rucinsky et al. But other then that this move only helps the 3rd or 4th line St.Louis

Rumors For January 14th
RANGERS AFTER RUCINSKY OR MALONE?
NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports the struggling Rangers have "intensified efforts" with the St. Louis Blues to bring forward Martin Rucinsky back to Broadway, and they’re also believed in talks with the Pittsburgh Penguins regarding forward Ryan Malone and possibly defenceman Brooks Orpik. Brooks claims the Rangers may be dangling young forward Petr Prucha as trade bait. The Rangers apparently tried to offer up Prucha and Adam Hall for Rucinsky but talks stalled when the Blues asked for "high regarded" young prospect center Brandon Dubinsky.
Hockey Guy Notes: The rangers need a powerplay quateback more then anything!
-KINGS TO START SHOPPING.
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Chris Foster reports Kings GM Dean Lombardi will start looking toward next season as the trade deadline approaches, looking to be a "seller" in hopes of bringing in young players and draft picks. Lombardi is also seeking an affordable goalie now that Dan Cloutier and Mathieu Garon are sidelined by injury. Don’t expect defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky to be traded, as assistant GM Ron Hextall called him a core player that the club would like to re-sign in the off-season.
Hockey Guy Notes: The kings need a goaile and really bad, they have need a goaile all year and Esche is not the answer, someone like Martin Biron would be the answer.
THE LATEST FROM THE OTTAWA SUN.
Bruce Garrioch reports the following:
- It’s doubtful Peter Forsberg will be leaving the Philadelphia Flyers this season. Despite speculation that rival teams might be interested ( like Montreal, Colorado, Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto), Garrioch points out Forsberg has a "no-trade" clause and he isn’t interested in leaving the Flyers
Hockey Guy Notes: We well have to play the waiting game with Forsberg but he is damaged goods.
- There’s speculation NY Islanders head coach Ted Nolan and forward Miroslav Satan aren’t getting along. Satan has a no-trade clause and can’t be moved without his consent.
Hockey Guy Notes: Toronto and Vancouver will make a push for Satan. Just imagne Satan with Sundin or with the twins in Vancouver.
- The Minnesota Wild are shopping forward Pascal Dupuis as he hasn’t garnered much playing time and the Wild want to clear his $798K salary.
Hockey Guy Notes: Great two-way forward, someone will pick him up.
- The Oilers, Sharks, Red Wings and Canucks are believed interested in Boston Bruins defenceman Brad Stuart, who’s an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Hockey Guy Notes: Stuart has turn in a great two-way d-man and if does not re-sign in Boston by the deadline he will be trade with Vancouver (offer salo? and pick) or Edmonton will be in the running for her services.
- The Chicago Blackhawks would like to trade defenceman Adrian Aucoin, who was a healthy scratch last week.
Hockey Guy Notes: Who wants a guy with a bad groin and is overpaid @$5 millon for the next 2 season.
- Ottawa Senators GM John Muckler has yet to begin contract talks with impending UFA blueliner Chris Phillips but apparently Muckler doesn’t want to trade him and will start negotiations soon.
Hockey Guy Notes: Phillips is a great 2nd or 3rd pairing d-man but needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Rumors from TSN Backchecking
- The Edmonton Oilers are after Flyers D Joni Pitkanen, offering LW Raffi Torres and RW Joffrey Lupul in exchange. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren denied the rumour in the Delaware County Times. The Edmonton Sun noted, however, that an Oilers scout was watching a recent Flyers-Senators game.
- If the Maple Leafs can't get Darcy Tucker signed to an extension before the trade deadline, he could attract quite a bit of interest on the trade market, reports the Globe and Mail. The paper also reports that the Maple Leafs are likely not to pick up Mats Sundin's option for next season, but rather sign Sundin to an extension that would cost less against the cap.
- While improved play might make the Blues less likely to deal, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch points out that Keith Tkachuk and Bill Guerin are headed for free agency and could be attractive options at the deadline. the paper notes that Radek Dvorak, Jamal Mayers, Vladimir Orszagh, Eric Brewer, Jamie Rivers and Manny Legace are also going to be free agents at season's end.
- The St. Petersburg Times reports that, while teams continue to inquire about the Lightning's star forwards -- Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards -- speculation then turns to Vaclav Prospal, Ruslan Fedotenko, Andreas Karlsson and Luke Richardson as possible bait for a puck-moving defenceman.
- The Boston Globe indicates that, if Hannu Toivonen can't play as a solid backup, then the Bruins could be looking to deal for a veteran to back up Tim Thomas. The Boston Herald points to D Brad Stuart and LW Marco Sturm, both heading for free agency, as possible bargaining chips. The Globe also suggests that rookie D Matt Lashoff is another one who could be a prized trade commodity.
- Chuck Kobasew could be on his way out of Calgary, according to the Calgary Sun, with the suggestion that Pittsburgh's Ryan Malone might be a good swap.
- The Sun also floats the idea that the Lightning are going to deal for a goaltender, with the thought being that the Sharks could soon be ready to move Vesa Toskala. The Lightning could get discussions going by offering Dan Boyle as part of the package.
- Several sources report that veteran Panthers LW Gary Roberts could be on the move soon.
- The Tennessean reports that the Predators could move out of Nashville, under an early termination clause in their agreement with the local government, if the team's attendance dips below 14,000 per game by the end of next season.

Sorry I have been away
i had oral surgery yesterday was out for something like 8 hours, just start feeling better the morning.
here are quick news in hockey.
Former NHLer Burnett in hospital with coma:
Police in suburban Vancouver are investigating an assault that has left a former NHL player in a coma and fighting for his life.
The Hockey News reports that Garrett Burnett, who played 39 games for the Anaheim Ducks in 2003-04, was allegedly assaulted in the early hours of Dec. 26 when he was out with a group of friends at a nightclub in North Delta, B.C.
Delta police say Burnett was at the club with a small group of friends and became involved in a dispute with another group inside the club. Both parties were asked to leave and when Burnett and his friends left the club, the group with whom they had the dispute was reportedly waiting for them and assaulted them. Police say Burnett was “severely” hit in the head during the incident.
"We are treating this very seriously," said Acting Sgt. Wave Steinwand of the Delta Police Department. "He's still in a coma and could go either way."
Police are currently investigating the incident and have gone over video of the assault and have several potential suspects in mind, but charges have yet to be laid, Steinwand said.
A native of nearby Coquitlam, B.C., Burnett was in his home province after being banished from the Quebec-based North American Hockey League in December.
In a Dec. 17 game for the Summum Chiefs, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound former enforcer threw a net at an opposing goalie, then made a spectacle of himself on the ice during a brawl. He was suspended by the league for the remaining 36 games of the season and the playoffs. Burnett had played just four games for the Chiefs this season.
The Chiefs reportedly learned of Burnett's condition when team president Pierre Rochefort tried several times to get in touch with Burnett during the Christmas season. After leaving several voicemail messages for Burnett, Rochefort received a call from Burnett's father telling him that his son was in a coma.
Burnett scored one goal and two assists and had 184 penalty minutes in his 39 games with the Ducks in 2003-04.
Signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks in 1998, then by the Ducks in 2003, Burnett has spent most of his career bouncing around the minor leagues. Last season, he split time between the Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL and the Iowa Stars of the American League, the Dallas Stars' top affiliate.
Burnett signed as a free agent with the Stars in the summer of 2005, but is no longer under contract with any NHL team.

Hockey Guy Notes: I wish the best to luck to his family and hopefully he comes to.
-The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have claimed 6’3”, 190-pound goaltender Michael Leighton on waivers from the Nashville Predators, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren."I think more than anything Michael is an insurance policy for us,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “We think that he is a good, young goalie. At times this year, we have run the risk of either Antero (Niittymaki) or Robert (Esche) being injured and then having to put a young goalie who, in our opinion, is clearly not ready for the NHL at this point in time into a game. Michael gives us insurance so that we won't expose ourselves like that. He will report to the Flyers, so we will have three goaltenders.""I am definitely excited,” said Leighton. “I am coming from Nashville where it wasn't a very good situation for me. I am coming to team where I will get a chance to play if there are injuries. I am happy to be in the NHL. Philadelphia is a great organization and I'm happy to be here."I think right now, with three goalies, I just have to work hard in practice and gain some confidence and trust from the coaches. I just want to work hard and hopefully get in some games and try to prove myself."Leighton, 25, appeared in one game with the Predators this season, allowing two goals in 20 minutes played. He was claimed by Nashville on waivers from the Anaheim Ducks on November 27, 2006. He registered an 8-6-1 record, two shutouts, a 2.31 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 16 games for the Ducks’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Pirates, this season. He was signed as a free agent by the Ducks on July 13, 2006.In parts of three NHL seasons with Chicago (2002-03 and 2003-04) and Nashville (2006-07), Leighton has compiled an 8-21-14 record, three shutouts, a 2.98 GAA and .901 save percentage in 43 regular season games. Last season, he posted a 15-22-1 record, 3.21 GAA and two shutouts in 40 regular season games for the Buffalo Sabres’ AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He was acquired by the Sabres from the Blackhawks in exchange for Milan Bartovic on October 4, 2005.He was originally drafted by Chicago in the sixth round (165th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Hockey Guy Notes: Esche will get trade sometime in the next month and this was done if either goaile gets hurt again.

Maple Leafs claim Green off waivers
The Maple Leafs have claimed forward Travis Green off waivers from Anaheim on Wednesday, bringing the Castlegar, B.C., native back to Toronto.
''To the say the least, I'm excited,'' Green told The Canadian Press as he packed his bags in Anaheim. ''You look around the league, I don't think there's a team I would feel more comfortable coming to than Toronto. I loved my time there and I really look forward to it, hopefully getting a chance to help out in any way I can.''
With forward Nik Antropov remaining on the Long Term Injury list, the Maple Leafs had the financial flexibility to absorb Green's minimal salary of $500,000. Green will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
To make room, the club sent forward Erik Westrum down to the AHL Marlies.
Green, 36, has played in more than 900 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and New York Islanders. He has won a Northeast Division title with the Bruins (2004), reached the Eastern Conference final with the Maple Leafs (2002), and reached the Wales Conference final with the Islanders (1993). He has twice scored 25 goals (1995-96 and 1999-2000) and has once led the Islanders in assists (45 in 1995-96). His 70 points in 1995-96 were a career best.
''We think Travis can come in and provide some stability and experience,'' said Leafs GM John Ferguson, also pointing out Green's faceoff skills. ''He's played over 900 games and can solidify the forward group a little bit as we weather the storm here.''
At the international level, Travis has represented Canada at three World Championships (1996 silver, 1997 gold, 1998).
Drafted by the New York Islanders in 1989 (2/23), Green is in his 13th NHL season.

Sharks set to fire Ron Wilson?
Many rumblings throughout the league, you should know, that the Sharks are becoming somewhat impatient with Ron Wilson's work behind the bench.
from the files of the New York Post
Hockey Guy Notes: This a first i have heard this but the sharks have been on a slide but the still have good basketball record( 28-14) and they are sitting 2nd in their divison and 4th in the wild west and with dallas 3 points back.
If San Jose does fire him, Pat Quinn will be right in there for the mix of coachs for the job.

Hurricanes deal Adams for Seidenberg
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenceman Dennis Seidenberg from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for centre Kevyn Adams on Monday.
The Hurricanes were looking for help on the blue-line after losing veteran Bret Hedican to injury last week, joining the likes of Frantisek Kaberle and Tim Gleason on the sidelines and leaving Carolina short-handed.
''With some uncertainly concerning when our injured defencemen will be able to return, we needed to make this move now,'' Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford said in a statement. ''Dennis will be a good fit for us on defence. We thank Kevyn for his good service during his years in Carolina.''
Seidenberg, 25, had been a healthy scratch in recent games with the Coyotes. With Nick Boynton set to come back Tuesday night for the Coyotes after missing six weeks with a broken foot, Phoenix needed to move a blue-liner. Seidenberg had one goal and one assist in 32 games with the Coyotes this season.
The German has 33 points (8-25) and 56 penalty minutes in 158 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Phoenix.
Adams, a checking centre, had 72 points (38-34) in 300 games with the Hurricanes over the past five years. He has two goals and two assists in 35 games this season.
from: www.tsn.ca/nhl
Hockey Guy Notes: This a strange move by the canes who will have 10 d-man after everyone gets healthy. This is a very odd deal for both sides because look at the yotes Steve Reinprecht is the number one center, Yanic Perreault is the number 2 center, Mike Zigomanis is the 3rd line center, Jeremy Roenick, Joel Perrault and Mike Ricci are the 4th line center and that leaves Kevyn Adams play on the wing on the 4th line?
they for defensmen are: Anton Babchuk, Mike Commodore, Bret Hedican (who is going to be back in febuary), Andrew Hutchinson, David Tanabe, Niclas Wallin, Glen Wesley, Tim Gleason (back after all-star game), Frantisek Kaberle (back after allstar game) and now Dennis Seidenberg. That only leaves the canes tradeing a d-man for offesnive help down the road.

Rumors for January 7th
this is from the Ottawa Sun(http://ottsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Hockey/2007/01/07/3215597-sun.html)
-Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe has turned up his search for a blueliner with the club not getting much help from its defencemen. It's believed he'd like to acquire Boston D Brad Stuart, an Alberta native who will be an UFA this summer, but the Bruins have opened talks with his representatives. The Oilers will have to get in line because the Sharks, Avs and Wings have all called to see what the Bruins want for Stuart. Desperate earlier this season, Lowe may have called the Senators to see if they'd trade D Wade Redden. It's believed the club just told Lowe that Redden isn't going anywhere. The Oilers have made a pitch to the Flyers for D Joni Pitkanen. It's believed Edmonton is offering LW Raffi Torres or RW Joffrey Lupul
Hockey Guy Notes: Edmonton will aquire a two d-man but remain a question who? i guess we well find out sooner then later if edmonton contiues to lose.
-LW Ladislav Nagy ($3 million), D Nick Boynton ($2.95 million) and D Dennis Seidenberg ($750,000) could be next. It's believed the Habs, Blackhawks, Canucks, Rangers and Flames all called to check on Comrie's availability. The Coyotes have insisted they won't trade F Shane Doan, but they haven't done anything to try to sign him either. It's believed the Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Senators and Leafs have all inquired about Doan's availability.
Hockey Guy Notes: As a said before Doan would look really good in a vancouver canucks jersey play with the twins.
-The Flames wouldn't mind moving RW Chuck Kobasew, who is out right now with a head injury. A possible fit is Pittsburgh where the club is listening to offers for LW Ryan Malone.
Hockey Guy Notes: Ryan Malone is not the answer for the flames they need a real number one center.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs still haven't made a decision regarding Mats Sundin's contract. The Leafs have a club option on him for $6.3 million and would like to sign him to an extension but don't want to be on the hook for that cap hit for next season if he re-signs for a lower amount.
Hockey Guy Notes: I have also heard on the Spin that Mats Sundin option is very werid, the cap hit is $6.3 mill but he would be makeing $4 mill.
- Sources claim the Tampa Bay Lightning could start dumping salary if the club doesn't turn things around soon. The Bolts have been shopping Vaclav Prospal but nobody wants him and his recent clash with head coach John Tortorella does little to enhance his value. It's believed the club may be in the market for a goaltending upgrade and might be interested in Vesa Toskala, whom the San Jose Sharks might be getting ready to move, but Garrioch believes that might cost the Bolts Dan Boyle as Sharks GM Doug Wilson has long been in the market for a puckmoving defenceman.
Hockey Guy Notes: Tampa Can not get a good goaile until one of the big three moves!
- "It's doubtful the Flyers are going to be able to deal C Peter Forsberg at the NHL's trade deadline because the risk might be too high."
Hockey Guy Notes: We have to wait and see.
- "(T)alk around the league is GM Peter Chiarelli has been actively working the phones looking for a blueliner. There aren't many available, but Kings D Lubomir Visnovsky remains an option.
Hockey Guy Notes: Pierre Lebrun said he was not available? becuase he has one more year left on his deal but we to have to play the wait and see game!
- Garrioch suggests the more likely fit for the Oilers or Bruins is defenceman Eric Brewer, as team president John Davidson is "getting ready to clean house in St. Louis."
Hockey Guy Notes: that might be put hold if the blues continue to win.
Rumors from the Satellite Hotstove:
- Eric Duhatschek reports the Florida Panthers could be sellers by the trade deadline, mentioning Todd Bertuzzi, Josef Stumpel, Gary Roberts, Martin Gelinas and Ed Belfour as possible trade bait.
Hockey Guy Notes: Gelinas can be helpful in the playoffs and florida be a fun team to watch for trades coming up until the deadline.
- Scott Morrison reported the Tampa Bay Lightning are seeking a puckmoving defenceman and are believed shopping forwards Vaclav Prospal and Ruslan Fedotenko.
Hockey Guy Notes: Tampa needs more then a puckingmoving, they need a new coach and new goaile.
- Pierre Lebrun reports some teams are interested in LA Kings defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky but he probably isn't available. He still has another season on his contract and GM Dean Lombardi may wish to keep him
Hockey Guy Notes: this will shut down all the rumors for him.
- Lebrun also mentions the Carolina Hurricanes might be in the market for a defenceman, however, they are expecting to get some of their injured defenceman back after the All-Star break, which could leave them eventually with ten defencemen. That would mean management would have to move one of them.
