this is from the Ottawa Sun(http://ottsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Hockey/2007/01/07/3215597-sun.html)
-Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe has turned up his search for a blueliner with the club not getting much help from its defencemen. It's believed he'd like to acquire Boston D Brad Stuart, an Alberta native who will be an UFA this summer, but the Bruins have opened talks with his representatives. The Oilers will have to get in line because the Sharks, Avs and Wings have all called to see what the Bruins want for Stuart. Desperate earlier this season, Lowe may have called the Senators to see if they'd trade D Wade Redden. It's believed the club just told Lowe that Redden isn't going anywhere. The Oilers have made a pitch to the Flyers for D Joni Pitkanen. It's believed Edmonton is offering LW Raffi Torres or RW Joffrey Lupul
Hockey Guy Notes: Edmonton will aquire a two d-man but remain a question who? i guess we well find out sooner then later if edmonton contiues to lose.
-LW Ladislav Nagy ($3 million), D Nick Boynton ($2.95 million) and D Dennis Seidenberg ($750,000) could be next. It's believed the Habs, Blackhawks, Canucks, Rangers and Flames all called to check on Comrie's availability. The Coyotes have insisted they won't trade F Shane Doan, but they haven't done anything to try to sign him either. It's believed the Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Senators and Leafs have all inquired about Doan's availability.
Hockey Guy Notes: As a said before Doan would look really good in a vancouver canucks jersey play with the twins.
-The Flames wouldn't mind moving RW Chuck Kobasew, who is out right now with a head injury. A possible fit is Pittsburgh where the club is listening to offers for LW Ryan Malone.
Hockey Guy Notes: Ryan Malone is not the answer for the flames they need a real number one center.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs still haven't made a decision regarding Mats Sundin's contract. The Leafs have a club option on him for $6.3 million and would like to sign him to an extension but don't want to be on the hook for that cap hit for next season if he re-signs for a lower amount.
Hockey Guy Notes: I have also heard on the Spin that Mats Sundin option is very werid, the cap hit is $6.3 mill but he would be makeing $4 mill.
- Sources claim the Tampa Bay Lightning could start dumping salary if the club doesn't turn things around soon. The Bolts have been shopping Vaclav Prospal but nobody wants him and his recent clash with head coach John Tortorella does little to enhance his value. It's believed the club may be in the market for a goaltending upgrade and might be interested in Vesa Toskala, whom the San Jose Sharks might be getting ready to move, but Garrioch believes that might cost the Bolts Dan Boyle as Sharks GM Doug Wilson has long been in the market for a puckmoving defenceman.
Hockey Guy Notes: Tampa Can not get a good goaile until one of the big three moves!
- "It's doubtful the Flyers are going to be able to deal C Peter Forsberg at the NHL's trade deadline because the risk might be too high."
Hockey Guy Notes: We have to wait and see.
- "(T)alk around the league is GM Peter Chiarelli has been actively working the phones looking for a blueliner. There aren't many available, but Kings D Lubomir Visnovsky remains an option.
Hockey Guy Notes: Pierre Lebrun said he was not available? becuase he has one more year left on his deal but we to have to play the wait and see game!
- Garrioch suggests the more likely fit for the Oilers or Bruins is defenceman Eric Brewer, as team president John Davidson is "getting ready to clean house in St. Louis."
Hockey Guy Notes: that might be put hold if the blues continue to win.
Rumors from the Satellite Hotstove:
- Eric Duhatschek reports the Florida Panthers could be sellers by the trade deadline, mentioning Todd Bertuzzi, Josef Stumpel, Gary Roberts, Martin Gelinas and Ed Belfour as possible trade bait.
Hockey Guy Notes: Gelinas can be helpful in the playoffs and florida be a fun team to watch for trades coming up until the deadline.
- Scott Morrison reported the Tampa Bay Lightning are seeking a puckmoving defenceman and are believed shopping forwards Vaclav Prospal and Ruslan Fedotenko.
Hockey Guy Notes: Tampa needs more then a puckingmoving, they need a new coach and new goaile.
- Pierre Lebrun reports some teams are interested in LA Kings defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky but he probably isn't available. He still has another season on his contract and GM Dean Lombardi may wish to keep him
Hockey Guy Notes: this will shut down all the rumors for him.
- Lebrun also mentions the Carolina Hurricanes might be in the market for a defenceman, however, they are expecting to get some of their injured defenceman back after the All-Star break, which could leave them eventually with ten defencemen. That would mean management would have to move one of them.
