- Rangers are keeping tabs on Flyers C Peter Forsberg for a possible trade, and notes Montreal and Atlanta as possible Eastern Conference rivals that would bid for him as well. The paper also mentions the Ottawa Senators, but that seems unlikely given the Sens depth down the middle. While noting the Wings' interest in Forsberg, the Detroit News says that the Rangers are willing to offer RW Petr Prucha for Forsberg, and that the Rangers have also explored deals for Kings C Craig Conroy and Canucks C Brendan Morrison. The Rangers, Canadiens and Red Wings are the leading candidates to land Forsberg. Vancouver and Colorado are among the dozen or so teams to inquire about the Flyers centre.
- If it's to be believed that the Rangers would offer Prucha (and possibly a pick) for Forsberg, what could the Red Wings or Canadiens offer to compete? Detroit could part with some combination of Jiri Hudler, Johan Franzen or Jason Williams, though Philadelphia would surely get more interested if Niklas Kronwall was available. Montreal would readily offer Sergei Samsonov, but Philly's likely to be more interested in young, inexpensive prospects like Andrei Kostitsyn, Mikhail Grabovski or Kyle Chipchura.
-the Flyers have the following unrestricted free agents who could be available for a deal: Kyle Calder, Mike York, Robert Esche, Todd Fedoruk and Dmitry Afanasenkov. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren told the paper that he will not consider dealing Sami Kapanen.
-Blues D Eric Brewer will be attractive trade bait approaching the trade deadline, possibly even for the Oilers.
-Bruins D Brad Stuart could get moved before the deadline. Both are free agents at season's end.
-Senators D Joe Corvo could go for LW Raffi Torres or RW Joffrey Lupul, though the Oilers are reluctant to take on the remaining three years on Corvo's contract.
-The Hurricanes are going to move a defenceman or two in the coming weeks, once they are all healthy, while adding forward depth.
- The Bruins are dealing, their needs include an energy forward and depth on the blueline.
- That Blues free agents to be Eric Brewer, Keith Tkachuk, Bill Guerin, Jamal Mayers, Radek Dvorak, Jamie Rivers and Manny Legace could all be of interest to contending teams.
-Oilers could pursue added toughness through trade, if they feel they need an upgrade on minor league tough-guy Zack Stortini.
-Should the Coyotes fall further out of the playoff picture, wingers Ladislav Nagy and Shane Doan should be available
-The mediocre play from D Dmitri Kalinin has the Sabres considering a move to improve their defence corps.
-The Canucks could be interested in snagging former Canucks and current Blue Jackets RW Anson Carter before the deadline. However The Jackets have entered into negotiations for a contract extension with Carter.
-While discussing the Blackhawks' desire to move veteran defencemen Adrian Aucoin and Jassen Cullimore, whether the Blackhawks might be inclined to move G Nikolai Khabibulin to a contender needing a boost between the pipes. Of course, that contender would need to have major cap room to handle Khabibulin's contract. More likely is that the Blackhawks will try to deal either Patrick Lalime or Brian Boucher.
-Panthers RW Todd Bertuzzi is itching to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs when he hits free agency this summer.
